BBQ sauces aren’t just for briskets, burgers, picnic shoulders and chuck roasts. We know of Deli Direct fans who like to use our barbecue sauces to make meatballs, meatloaf and pizza. But we bet you didn’t know BBQ sauces may be used to make compound butters, salad dressings, deviled eggs, refried beans, sandwich spreads, jellies and cocktails too! It’s a delicious, smoky fact.

Barbecue Sauce Basics

Whipping up BBQ refried beans, deviled eggs, compound butters, sandwich spreads and salad dressings are generally as easily as stirring in some sauce. So today, we’re going to focus on the cocktails and jellies because they require a bit more finesse. Let’s start with the base of great, BBQ sauce cocktails, simple syrup. It’s nothing more than equal parts granulated or brown sugar and water that get heated on to the stove. One cup of each will typically yield you 1-1/2 cups of syrup.

Big Bad Bubba’s Barbecue Bar Syrup

Once you have your sugar and water into the pot, reach for a bottle of Big Bad Bubba’s Barbecue Sauce. Add about ¼ of a cup to the pot, a little at a time, tasting as you go. When the syrup develops enough barbecue flavor to please your palate, stop and bottle it. It should stay fresh in the fridge for about a week, providing that you don’t use it all up before then. During happy hour, simply use the barbecue syrup every time a cocktail recipe calls for regular simple syrup.

Big Bad Bubba’s Barbecue Jelly

Now let’s move on to the barbecue jelly. Ask home canning enthusiasts and they’ll tell you that jelly recipes typically start with fruit pectin, a liquid and granulated sugar. The unique flavors come from the liquid and whatever fruits or vegetables are added to the mix. To make barbecue flavored ones, we’d suggest using Kraft’s freezer apple or hot pepper jelly recipe with a twist. Be bold and go beyond the traditional meat snacks by piquing party-goers’ interests with a variety of pickled bean dishes. The best ones start with our Hot & Spicy Pickled Beans. They come in 12 ounce jars, which is typically enough for four servings. However, you can stretch it out a bit by chopping up the beans and using the small pieces as a compliment to a dish rather than the focal point. Boiled Potato, Egg and Smoked Fish

Want to blow them away with something unexpected? First, cut a pound of potatoes into quarters. Then boil them along with four eggs. Peel the hard-boiled eggs and dice them up before adding them to the potatoes. Continue by tossing in ½ pound of smoked fish and 1-1/2 cup of our pickled beans. Next, put two tablespoons of the pickled bean juice, cider vinegar and our Santa Fe Sauce into a small bowl and whisk them together. Afterward, pour it over top of the potato, egg and smoked fish mixture. Toss the ingredients around until everything is covered in the Santa Fe Sauce and then serve it in a family style bowl.

Sautéed Tofu and Grilled Veggie Surprise

If you really need a great vegetarian dish for the party menu, surprise them with our tofu salad. Cut the tofu into manageable pieces and saute them like you normally would. When you’re done, toss the tofu into a bowl along with a variety of grilled veggies and our pickled beans, juice and all. Then use a slotted spoon to fill everyone’s plate with a hefty helping or let them plate their own.
