You pick your party dips to perk up parties, and are, of course, to convince people to eat fresh raw veggies. The problem is that vegetables simply don't hold enough dip to empty out the container by the end of the party. Everyone has scarfed down the cherry tomatoes and carrots, and left the celery, plus half the King Of The Sea Dip. Now personally, I hate to waste food. I would finish off the celery in a chicken salad or fry it up with onions and beef. That, however, leaves the leftover dip. The next party isn't for months and the crackers have disappeared with the guests. What can we do with the dip?

  1. Sandwiches. Who wants boring old mayo and mustard on your hoagie, anyway? Seafood dips are particularly good with lettuce and tomato with rye. Jalapeno party dip could be just the spice to complement your turkey. You can mix and match. The great thing is that you don't need much per sandwich. No matter how little the guests left you, you can still use it.
  2. Chicken salad. Tuna salad goes great with ranch dip or Danish Bleu cheese dip, just to give you a few options to add variety to your salad. Again, the dip works as a substitute for mayonnaise. It can give a spicy tang to any salad. These can be mixed in with mayo if you don't have enough for a salad.
  3. Crust for baked chicken. Cover your chicken in dip and then dredge in bread crumbs for a fast way to jazz up dinner. You don't even need Parmesan cheese. You can make your chicken spicy by using Jalapeno dip or tangy by using Chipotle dip. It is up to you. You do need quite a bit to make good chicken breading, but sometimes a party gets cancelled or guests decide to fill up on cookies. There is no accounting for tastes.

Everyone’s heard of firecracker shrimp and salmon but you may have some people at the party who don’t like the heat. So, we’re suggesting that you prepare the fish and party dips separately. With that said, firecracker shrimp and salmon fans will undoubtedly love our Beat the Heat Habenero Dip because it’s just an explosion of fiery flavors. The same party dip also tastes amazing with fried clam strips, catfish nuggets and lobster rolls. But don’t limit the fish lovers to just one selection. Try adding our King of the Sea Dip, gimbap and baked pita chips to the platter too. And for those that have never had gimbap before, it’s nothing more than a seaweed wrapped assortment of rice stuffed with various fillings.

Grilled Fruit Platter

Grilled fruit platters are always winning rave reviews, especially if they’re served alongside of a Danish Blue Cheese Dip. Blue cheese dips are so creamy that they really balance well with the sweetness and acidity of many summer fruits. A few of the ones we’d suggest adding to the platter are pears, peaches, figs, oranges, apples, mangoes and pineapple. Grill them up right before you are ready to pull the platter together and serve the party dip cold. It will add even more contrast to the snack.

Potluck social nights and I are not friends.

It’s not because I don’t love to cook. I do! In fact, when I’m stressed, it’s not uncommon to find me in the kitchen…and it has nothing to do with getting to eat the products of my labors. Mostly. Sometimes.

The problem with potlucks is that I never know what to bring. Do I show up with the dish that was a complete success last time, or do I accept that it’s been done and try something else? Do I make something sweet, or something salty? Do I put a lot of effort into it and make it fancy, or do I just toss something together?

I usually make my decision about what I’m bringing when I walk into the kitchen, oh, about fifteen minutes before I have to start cooking. Some of it depends on what’s left in the kitchen and how many days it is until our next grocery run. Some of it depends on what I’m in the mood for. Mostly, it depends on what jumps out at me when I walk into the kitchen and open a cabinet.

I have a friend who now insists on very specific lists when we have a potluck party. Saying, “I’ll bring a dessert,” is no longer good enough for her. It might have something to do with the potluck at which half a dozen different women brought brownies. Thanks to that, I have developed a couple of go-to recipes that I almost always have the supplies for on hand—including one dip recipe that you can keep the staples for around all the time, just in case you realize at the last minute that you have no idea what you’re taking to a potluck.

Easy Chicken, Bacon, and Ranch Dip

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup shredded chicken (canned works, too)
  • 6 slices turkey bacon, cooked
  • 2 cups shredded cheese, divided
  • 1 large container Greek yogurt
  • 1 package Western Ranch Dip
Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 375° F and cut the turkey bacon into small pieces.
  2. Stir the ranch dip mix and Greek yogurt together in an oven-safe bowl.
  3. Add bacon, 1 ½ cups of cheese, and chicken; stir to combine.
  4. Sprinkle remaining ½ cup cheese over the top and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cheese is bubbling and edges are slightly crusty.
  5. Serve with crackers, tortilla chips, pretzels, or anything else you might want to dip into the party dip.
