If you're a fan of spicy food--especially hot peppers--then you've likely heard of the ghost pepper. This one is so potent that eating it raw is often considered dangerous and is not something the average person does. In some restaurants across the country there are contests that award people who successfully eat ghost peppers. Curious about them, but don’t want to go all in just yet? Thankfully, it's possible to enjoy it in a less hazardous way with our Blazzing Hot Ghost Pepper Cheese spread.

What Is The Blazzing Hot Ghost Pepper Cheese Spread?

This delicious spread offers you eight ounces of cheesy heat for under five dollars, and is a nice alternative to other spicy pepper dips. Keep in mind that compared to our Jalapeno Cheese Sprea d with a heat rating of two out of five peppers, the ghost pepper spread is a full five out of five on this scale. While it is intense, the combination of the cheese and pepper makes it slightly more palatable and more versatile than eating a pepper straight up.

Even with it being less hot than eating a ghost pepper, it’s still going to burn a bit. We've helped prepare you for this—even if an experienced spicy-food eater—by coming up with a few guidelines.

Before Your Ghost Pepper Cheese Spread Consumption

  • Gradually increase your spicy tolerance by eating Jalapeno and other less intense peppers. Cook with them and eat them raw. If you’re already accustomed to eating hot foods, you might be able to skip this part. But if you’re sensitive the heat, this step is crucial.
  • Eat at least one spicy pepper a day to further increase your tolerance – start with pepper products and increase to whole raw peppers.
  • The day you want to eat your cheese spread, eat a normal non-spicy meal--something small--to help provide your body with some fat to absorb some of the spiciness of the pepper. This might seem like cheating, but the ghost pepper is really this hot.
  • Before you eat the spread, take antacids such as Tums, or other products to aid with indigestion and heartburn that may occur soon after eating this. Getting the pepper past your mouth is only the first part, as your stomach can give you enduring problems for days to follow if you don’t treat it right.

Recovering After You Do

After you're done eating, have a dairy beverage or even ice cream on standby to help cool the burning inside your mouth. Dairy products have been proven to be an effective way to decrease the severity of spicy food. This is because the casein in milk binds to the oils in the peppers to help wash away the heat. It’s okay to let it sit in your mouth for a while before swallowing.

Be sure to wash your hands with soap and warm water to extract the pepper oils from your skin. This grease can cause burning sensations and irritation should it get into your eyes or other delicate parts of your body. The oils can settle deep into the grooves of your skin so don’t underestimate ability to burn the next day, even with a few washings.

How You Can Use This Spread

Once you know your tolerance for this spread, you can enjoy it a number of ways.

  • Spread it on a variety of delicious crackers.
  • Use it as a chip dip for when Jalapeno dips aren't spicy enough.
  • Dabble a little on a cheeseburger to give it a nice kick.
  • Spread it on a cold meat and cheese sandwich.

These simple serving techniques will help make your ghost pepper spread more than a novelty item. Be mindful of putting this dip out during a gathering. People should be warned of its heat, and it should not be within easy reach of children.

If you’ve wanted to try the ghost pepper and just didn’t think you could handle the heat, this cheese spread might be a good way to find out. Just remember to take proper precautions before and after eating it. It's not very often that you have to think this much about eating one food, but your experience will be better when you know what to expect and how to handle it.

Even though all of the meats from Deli Direct go perfectly fine on their own or between a few slices of bread, there are tons of ways to creatively use deli meats. Casseroles, pasta, or the plain ole' egg can utilize delicious smoked meat.

Try this:

Ham & Cheese Omelet

Deli Direct's Canadian-style bacon is a perfect choice for this quick and easy recipe. To make this omelet you will need:

2 eggs

Salt, pepper, and any other of your favorite spices.

2 slices of Canadian-style bacon

1/4 cup cheese

Slice the Canadian-style bacon into cubes and mix all ingredients in a bowl. Using a fork to whip the eggs will result in a more fluffy omelet. Omelets are simple but can also be very frustrating. It's key to get the pan hot enough before pouring the egg mixture in. After two to three seconds, slide your pan back and forth so the egg distributes evenly. Cooking should only take a few more seconds. Once eggs mixture solidifies, slide the omelette into your plate and fold over. Top the omelet with your favorite cheese and enjoy!

Shut your eyes and imagine that the snow is gently falling outside. Inside, a person is leaning over a big, steaming bowl full of soup and indulging in a heaping spoonful. It’s a classic, American scene to be sure but it may be improved upon with the addition of cheese spreads. Cheese spreads bring something extra to a meal and personally, we can’t think of spending National Soup Month without them.

Don’t believe us? Consider bowlfuls of French onion soup. They’re normally topped with what? That’s right, ooey goey cheese. Well what if you tossed the shredded, Wisconsin cheese to the side and reached for a dollop of toasted onion spread instead? It’s made with creamy cheddar cheese, onions and chives. Now doesn’t that sound like a perfect way to top off a bowl full of French onion soup?

French onion isn’t the only soup that would welcome a little dollop or two of premium cheese spreads. We think that potato, spinach and broccoli soups would taste amazing with bleu cheese spread. Simply stir some into the soup before bringing the bowls to the table. And if you really want to elevate the meal more, add some deli meats, like beef sticks and smoked pepperoni.

Cube them up as part of a soup topping or serve them with artisan breads. Either way would surely garner two thumbs up from everyone fortunate enough to be at the table. And don’t let your imagination stop with the soup and cheese spread combinations we’ve already mentioned. After all, National Soup Month only comes around once a year. So live it up by enjoying as many cheesy, hot combinations as possible.

Presently, there are more than a dozen cheese spreads and thousands of soup recipes to choose from. Thus, making it through the month without having the same soup twice should be easy. To learn more about pairing cheese spreads with soups during the month of January and beyond, please contact us.

Watches, baubles, neck ties, widgets and beads are nice but we can only use so many of them. So after a while, they’re no fun to give or receive. Thankfully, there are still products out there that feed the soul. Cheese and sausage gift baskets are among them. They have the ability to transform Scrooges into giddy children and casual acquaintances into good friends. But that’s providing the cheese and sausage gift baskets have what it takes to delight recipients’ taste buds.

Carnivores Rejoice!

For unabashed carnivores, there is nothing better than a sturdy basket full of premium meats. So we’ve designed our Sausage Champion baskets with them in mind. Each offering boasts a full eight pounds of high quality proteins divided up into a myriad of well seasoned options, including Cajun sausages. And those savory, delicious sausages are not alone. They’re joined by gourmet condiments, crackers, mints and a shiny, sharp cleaver. Thus, it’s a true sausage rush for the pork and beef faithful.

Viva Variety!

For those who live by the creed “the more the better”, Gourmet Deli Classic Treasures baskets are unequivocally the perfect fit. They have two pounds less meat than the sausage gift baskets but feature a number of other, hunger satisfying additions. There is pumpkin butter, pickles, pirouline cookies, assorted condiments and wasabi peas. Recipients will also find dips, olives, chocolates, crackers, pickled beans and close to 50 ounces of cheese in each basket.

Now that’s just scratching the waxy top of the cheese wheel my friends! There are indubitably more cheese and sausage gift baskets to choose from. Plus, we can work with customers to build custom baskets for the most cantankerous, persnickety people they know.  To learn more and find the perfect cheese and sausage gift baskets, please contact us today.

Don’t torture friends and family with leftover turkey and stuffing sandwiches. There are so many better ways to get rid of leftovers, especially when cheese dips are in the house. A Spice Above’s Blazin’ Buffalo Dip is one of our personal favorites to use with holiday leftovers. Sold in one ounce packages, it’s made with cayenne peppers, paprika, garlic, hot sauce, butter, vinegar and more. Here’s what this fabulous cheese dip can do:

Shred any leftover holiday meats and fold them into a big bowl of Blazin’ Buffalo dip. Make sure that every last morsel of meat is absolutely drenched in the stuff. Then fill a platter with leftover bread, celery sticks, tortilla chips and other starchy dippers. Put the two dishes on to the table and let everyone dig in as often as they please.

Got leftover cranberry dressing too? Puree the dressing until it’s nice and smooth. Next, stir some into the cheese dip, tasting as you go. Then finish up by using the spread to make a platter full of turkey or ham Paninis. If you don’t have a Panini press, don’t get your winter scarf in a knot. Try grilling the sandwiches on the stove top or using old-fashioned toast instead.

Wondering what to do with leftover cauliflower and other vegetables? Guess what, Blazin’ Buffalo dip can jazz them up too. Just reheat the vegetables and use the cheese dip as a saucy topping or toss the veggies into it. Either way, they’ll be coated with hot, cheesy goodness. So everyone is less apt to complain about eating leftovers again.

And if your assortment of leftovers consists of nothing more than a little of this and a pinch of that, rejoice. Then reach for the refrigerated pizza crust. Pillsbury™ has a fantastic recipe posted online for Buffalo Chicken Cupcakes. They’re not really cupcakes, they just look like them. And the cups are filled with cheese dip and spoonfuls of leftovers. To discover other ways cheese dips can easily turn lame leftovers into something spectacular and mouth-watering, please contact us.

Okay, so let's be real, who doesn't love cheese? The taste, the color, the way it melts perfectly. Cheese is definitely a favorite of many food loving citizens in the world. That is why we endlessly try to find ways to incorporate the delicious delicacy that cheese is into any meal we can possibly imagine. Macaroni and cheese, cheese toast, cheese sticks, nacho cheese sauce; adding cheese just makes any food better. I mean, maybe even cheese on cheese would be worth trying.

One way that is terrific for incorporating a variety of cheeses into one gathering, without making it look like you are a cheese obsessed maniac, is to have several different types of cheese spreads. There are so many options available in terms of cheese that is in spreadable form. Perhaps you could try Asiago Cheese Spread, Blue Cheese Spread, Cheddar Cheese Spread, or pretty much any variety of cheese spread you can think of. Having these spreads coupled with various types of bread and crackers at your gathering gives the illusion that you just love the idea of having simple finger foods for your guests to enjoy. All the while you get to bask in the deliciousness of an unending variety of cheese. That seems like a win-win!

So go ahead, get some cheese spreads, line the party table with 5 - 10 different kinds and watch your guests enjoy the brunch, potluck, birthday party, or other occasion. They're sure to be a hit!

If you would like to place an order for a cheese spread for yourself, be sure to contact us today!

No matter their age, they are still our babies and we worry about them when they enter college. We wonder, “Will they make friends?” and “Are they eating enough?” Now there is a way to ensure that they’re doing both. It starts with choosing cheese and sausage gift baskets. Traditionally filled with enough food for more than one, they make excellent going away presents. This is especially true for college kids that plan on rooming with strangers.

Go Back to Cool and Classic

Let’s take our Gourmet Deli Classic Treasures basket as an example. It holds six pounds of meat and more than two pounds of cheese. Plus, there are additional items included, like cookies, chocolates, condiments and wasabi peas. So there is enough gourmet, snack food for our babies and the people who will hopefully become their new friends.

Furthermore, the kids can use the accompanying wicker basket, cutting board and cleaver in their dorm room or off campus apartment for other things. For instance, they may want to toss their keys, mail, student IDs or notes in the basket after all of the cheese and sausage is gone.

As for the cleaver and cutting board, it’s perfect for divvying up other snacks or a quick meal. The kids can clean them up afterwards and tuck them inside of their desks, night stands or allotted bookshelf space. Of course they could put them in the wicker basket too.

Variety without the Cutting Edge

Don’t want to give them a cleaver for the dorm? No worries there. We’ve got cheese and sausage gift baskets that are devoid of sharp-edged cutlery. One that tends to perfect for kids is the Special Variety Pack. It still has enough meats and cheeses for a small gathering of students as well as a cutting board. However, knives and cleavers are not included.

It never fails. The temperature zooms to over one hundred, and you have to make supper for the family. The air conditioning unit can only handle so much and it’s too hot for you to handle much more! It’s time to decide whether to call out for pizza and wings or think of something a little cooler. Then your eye falls on your Deli Direct Deli Classic meat and cheese gift basket. Walking to the fridge, you open it to see how you can combine its contents with the goodies in the gift basket. Grab some skewers, something to use for marinade (we suggest olive oil or Italian salad dressing) and all the fresh veggies you've got. Have we got some cool ideas for you (pun intended)!

Caesar Surfer

For this recipe, you’ll need:

  • Romaine lettuce with leaves separated
  • Diced tomatoes, cucumber and stuffed olives from your Deli Classic gift basket
  • Diced meats and cheeses

Combine all ingredients and drizzle with classic Caesar salad dressing. Finally finish off with Gourmet Chocolates from your Deli Classic gift basket!

Skewer Fun

Ingredients:

Thread the ingredients onto the skewer. Fold the spinach leaves until they’re the size of the other ingredients. Marinate in a Pyrex dish using the olive oil and a little basil or Italian salad dressing for two to three hours.

Of course, you can always just chunk everything in the fridge into a gigantuous bowl and make a rocking salad. A different meal idea would include flour tortillas, your choice of Deli Direct cheese spreads, a little lettuce, a few chunks of summer sausage, diced tomatoes and strips of red onion for a new twist on a wrap. However you choose to beat the heat, we have the best quality meats, cheeses, pickles, olives, spreads and sweets. Just contact us when the heat is too much for you to stay in the kitchen.

Not all party dips have to be savory. It’s perfectly okay to introduce a little sweetness into one’s life and we can’t think of a better way to do it than reaching for a jar of Dulce de Leche Sauce. Dulce de leche sauce has been used throughout Spain and Latin America for centuries. Why even the Mayans took time out from their battles to enjoy a bit of dulce de leche now and again so why shouldn’t you?

How Do You Dulce de Leche?

There are many ways to enjoy it. For instance, you could use our dulce de leche sauce to make bread pudding, sandwich cookies, cheesecake bars and corn panna cotta. It’s also fabulous on breakfast foods like pancakes, waffles and banana crepes. But our most favorite way of eating ducle de leche in the summer is on chocolate pound cake with fresh fruit and our best cheese spreads. It’s perfect for brunch.

Best Brunch Munchie Ever!

To make the summer treat, slice a chocolate pound cake up into even pieces and place them on to a serving platter. Then whip up a spread made from one of our cheese spreads, powdered sugar, Greek yogurt, whipped topping and pure vanilla extract. You’ll need ½ cup of the spread, whipped topping and the yogurt.

Many people use plain whipped topping and Greek yogurt for this recipe but you may want to experiment with other flavor combinations. For example, you could combine our Port Wine Cheese Spread with chocolate whipped cream and banana caramel Greek yogurt. Also, our Swiss Almond Cheese Spread would work well with almond whipped cream.

Either way, put the yogurt, whipped topping and cheese spread of your choice in to a bowl along with ¼ cup of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract to make four servings. Gently stir it all up and use the resulting sweet, cheesy spread to top the slices of chocolate pound cake. Next, add slices of your favorite fruit and drizzle it with our dulce de leche sauce. Afterward, enjoy the fruit and cheese topped pound cake slices with the people you love.
