BBQ sauce is the official taste of summer. Food smothered in barbecue sauce matches perfectly with warm evenings, outdoor parties, and everything else you love to do in the summer time. When deciding what you want to eat next, don't forget these three simple and fun ways to use barbecue sauce.

Barbecue Pizza

Homemade pizza is easy, and delicious. To make a barbecue pizza, you need to either make or buy a pizza crust. Take the barbecue sauce and cover the crust like you would with a normal pizza sauce. Add precooked chicken and some onions if you would like. Cover with your favorite cheese and bake until the cheese is nice and bubbly.

Barbecue Wings

Wings are a cinch to make, and are one of the best party snacks. Take some uncooked wings and mix them with vegetable oil, salt, and pepper. Cook them at 350 degrees for twenty minutes. Then flip them over and cook for another twenty minutes. After they bake thoroughly, mix the wings and barbecue sauce.

Barbecue Burgers

There are two different ways to add barbecue sauce to a burger. One way is to spread some sauce on the burger after it is cooked. Another way is to mix the sauce into the ground beef before you cook it. Either way adds a delicious layer of barbecue sauce flavor.

However you choose to get your BBQ sauce fix this summer, try some of Deli Direct's award-winning barbecue sauce.

BBQ sauces aren’t just for briskets, burgers, picnic shoulders and chuck roasts. We know of Deli Direct fans who like to use our barbecue sauces to make meatballs, meatloaf and pizza. But we bet you didn’t know BBQ sauces may be used to make compound butters, salad dressings, deviled eggs, refried beans, sandwich spreads, jellies and cocktails too! It’s a delicious, smoky fact.

Barbecue Sauce Basics

Whipping up BBQ refried beans, deviled eggs, compound butters, sandwich spreads and salad dressings are generally as easily as stirring in some sauce. So today, we’re going to focus on the cocktails and jellies because they require a bit more finesse. Let’s start with the base of great, BBQ sauce cocktails, simple syrup. It’s nothing more than equal parts granulated or brown sugar and water that get heated on to the stove. One cup of each will typically yield you 1-1/2 cups of syrup.

Big Bad Bubba’s Barbecue Bar Syrup

Once you have your sugar and water into the pot, reach for a bottle of Big Bad Bubba’s Barbecue Sauce. Add about ¼ of a cup to the pot, a little at a time, tasting as you go. When the syrup develops enough barbecue flavor to please your palate, stop and bottle it. It should stay fresh in the fridge for about a week, providing that you don’t use it all up before then. During happy hour, simply use the barbecue syrup every time a cocktail recipe calls for regular simple syrup.

Big Bad Bubba’s Barbecue Jelly

Now let’s move on to the barbecue jelly. Ask home canning enthusiasts and they’ll tell you that jelly recipes typically start with fruit pectin, a liquid and granulated sugar. The unique flavors come from the liquid and whatever fruits or vegetables are added to the mix. To make barbecue flavored ones, we’d suggest using Kraft’s freezer apple or hot pepper jelly recipe with a twist. Simply replace one half of the apple juice with Big Bad Bubba’s Barbecue Sauce and ta dah! You’ll be able to enjoy some of the best barbecue jelly in the world. We all know that BBQ sauces are a great condiment when we are grilling on a summer weekend. However, you do not need to put the bottle away just because the weekend (or warm weather) is over. There are many different ways to enjoy your favorite BBQ sauce throughout the rest of the week and year. These are some of our favorite ways!

Chicken Sandwiches:

Do you want to add a bit of tang to some leftover chicken? Shred the leftover chicken and pour some barbeque sauce over top and mix. For a little crunch, you can add some matchstick carrots. This will make an easy tasty sandwich filling.

BBQ Pizza:

Try something different on pizza night. Skip your usual traditional pizza sauce, and replace it with a bottle of barbeque sauce. Top the pizza with some chicken, onions, bell peppers and some of your favorite cheese for a great tasting pizza.

Nachos:

Nachos are a great staple for game day or movie night but if you want to kick up the flavor, add some BBQ sauce. Brown the meat of your choice as you typically would do. Instead of using your traditional nacho seasoning, stir in some BBQ sauce. Layer the meat on top of the nacho chips, and add your favorite toppings. Consider adding black beans, corn and some diced tomatoes; they make a nice complement to the sauce. Do not forget the cheese. Place the nachos in the oven long enough to melt the cheese.

Cupcakes:

When we think of BBQ sauce, dessert usually is not the first thing that comes to mind. However, you can make cupcakes with BBQ sauce for a unique dessert. Your guests will be surprised when they learn about your secret ingredient! Add some sweet BBQ sauce to your favorite chocolate cupcake recipe. The chocolate and BBQ sauce make for a tasty combination. Carefully add the sauce to taste and do not use more than a ½ cup. Bake as directed.

Worst

A Tie

Seriously? Even if Dad wears a tie to work every day, that doesn’t mean he wants to be reminded of that fact all the time. Giving your dad a tie on Father’s Day is like giving your best friend a candle or a pack of gum. It says, “I just don’t know you that well,” or, “I didn’t put any thought into this.” You’d be better off with just a card than another piece of neck silk, even if it has a really nice pattern.

Useless Office Knickknacks

Why is work the go-to genre for gifts for men? In case you’re wondering, I’ll spell it out for you: Dad doesn’t want another picture frame, paperweight, paperclip dispenser, or novelty coin bank. His cubicle has enough going on without a statue of Calvin peeing on something. Put it back on the store shelf and walk away. Your dad will thank you.

A Handmade Craft— From an Adult Child

Unless you’re a world-class knitter and your dad loves hats, there’s not a lot of wiggle room on this one. Beyond about age 10 it’s pretty lame for Dad to receive a painted set of hand prints, even if it does make a butterfly. And a lot of the stuff you might be tempted to make will likely fall under the “Useless Office Knickknacks” category. If you’re truly a master carpenter and you can build something outstanding, go for it. Otherwise, pass on hand-making your Dad’s gift.

Best

Meat

I don’t know how else to say it—men love meat. What father wouldn’t be thrilled to receive New York strip steak, center cut pork chops, or cheddar and jalapeno smoked bratwurst? Giving the gift of fine grilling meats gives dad the chance to do two of the things he loves most- grill, and then eat.

Barbeque Sauce

I saw something online the other day that screamed “Dad” to me: a father's day bbq gift basket. Whoever thought of this is a genius (wink wink). It comes with a bunch of different sauces, including spicy, zesty and horseradish varieties. I don’t know about your dad, but my dad is a connoisseur of sauces, and he would flip his lid to get a father's day bbq gift basket rather than another box of golf tees.

Beer

Nothing says “I love you and accept you for who you are” like a beer ice bucket full of Dad’s favorite snacks. Your mom may roll her eyes or “tisk tisk” him and his snacking habits, but you can show him your unconditional love in a way he’s sure to understand: through food! Pick up a Budweiser or Rolling Rock beer bucket, fill it with cold ones or snacks, and watch a smile light up his face.
